Chuseok, the Korean Thanksgiving is the one of the biggest festival in Korea. The festival is falls on today, 19 September 2013 but the holidays is observed three days starting yesterday till 20 September which makes the long holidays and provide opportunity to spent time with relatives. Since the festival is high season, people should buy the ticket in advance!

Speaking of Chuseok, actually Hangawi is the origin name of Chuseok. "Han"  means big and "gawi" means the ides of August in the Lunar Calender (the full harvest moon appears). The celebration is to thankful to the ancestors for the good harvest. Normally, they performed charye (ancestor memorial services) in the morning of Chuseok to thankful to their ancestors and served them with the freshly harvested rice, alcohol and songpyeon. Songpyeon is a rice cakes filled with mung beans, green soybeans and sesame.

The Korean people also visiting ancestor grave (beolcho) and cleaning weeds around the grave which is called seongmyo. This is to show their devoted respect to their ancestors and considered as duty for every family in Korea.

To highlight the Chuseok festival, not to forget to mention Ssireum (Korean wrestling) and ganggangsullae (woman dressed in hanbok joins their hands together in a circle and sing at the night under the full harvest moon). The dance is to believed originated from Korean army. They had women dressed in army suits, join their hands together at the mountain to show to the enemy that army is in greater number. Thanks for the tactic, they enjoyed victory!

Clothes is important part for celebrating the festival. Korean enjoyed adorning oneself with new clothes, which is called as "seolbim". In the past, people enhanced their beauty with hanbok, korean traditional dress, but now people prefer to buy western clothes to replace the tradition.

Lastly, with songpyeon and alcohol the chuseok is on!The festival seems became the bridge to reconnect families which is far away, to exchange stories about how they did during the year and provide opportunity to know each other better. It is not just festival, but to strengthen the unity, harmonious and relationship in every family in Korea!

Hope this Chuseok will bring prosperous, happiness and healthy to all people in the world!World Peace.
